Private Residence

Kampala, Uganda
Private residence living and entertaining space
The main living area — an open, light-filled interior where every material choice was made to endure.

The Brief

This private residence commission came with a clear directive: a home that feels considered and calm, built around the way the family actually lives. The clients wanted a space that was unambiguously luxurious without being showy — generous in proportion, refined in material, and free of visual noise. Every decision, from the spatial layout to the selection of finishes, was guided by that principle.

Approach

We structured the interior around a series of defined living zones — reception, dining, and the principal living room — arranged to take full advantage of the property's orientation and natural light. A consistent material palette of brushed stone, warm timber, and organic textiles runs throughout, creating coherence across spaces of varying scale and function.

Joinery was designed bespoke for the project: built-in shelving with integrated lighting, a feature fireplace surround, and kitchen cabinetry that balances high utility with a refined, furniture-like aesthetic. Soft furnishings were specified to complement the architecture, with layered lighting schemes designed for both everyday use and entertaining.

Outcome

The completed residence is a home that holds its quality in use. Each space functions exactly as the clients needed it to while maintaining the visual and material discipline established in the design brief. It is a project that demonstrates what considered residential design can achieve when the brief asks not for spectacle, but for a place to genuinely live well.
